Data Methodology

MaterialMeasure calculators are built around visible formulas, editable defaults, and clear estimate limits.

How Calculator Defaults Work

The calculators use common planning assumptions for material yield, coverage, density, and waste factor. These defaults are not brand guarantees. Where product labels vary, the calculator includes editable fields so a user can replace the default with the exact value from a bag, box, can, or supplier quote.

Formula Index

Concrete Calculator

  • Cubic feet = area_sqft × depth_inches / 12
  • Cubic yards = cubic_feet / 27
  • Adjusted volume = volume × (1 + waste_factor)
  • Bags = adjusted_cubic_feet / bag_yield

Gravel Calculator

  • Cubic feet = length_ft × width_ft × depth_inches / 12
  • Cubic yards = cubic_feet / 27
  • Tons = cubic_yards × tons_per_cubic_yard
  • Adjusted tons = tons × (1 + waste_factor)

Mulch Calculator

  • Area = length_ft × width_ft × number_of_areas
  • Cubic feet = area_sqft × depth_inches / 12
  • Cubic yards = cubic_feet / 27
  • Bags = adjusted_cubic_feet / bag_size

Paint Calculator

  • Wall area = 2 × (length + width) × wall_height
  • Paintable area = wall_area - door_area - window_area
  • Gallons = paintable_area × coats / coverage_per_gallon
  • Adjusted gallons = gallons × (1 + waste_factor)

Tile Calculator

  • Floor area = room_length × room_width
  • Tile area = tile_length_ft × tile_width_ft
  • Tiles = floor_area / tile_area
  • Boxes = adjusted_floor_area / box_coverage

Square Footage Calculator

  • Rectangle area = length × width
  • Triangle area = base × height / 2
  • Circle area = π × radius²
  • L-shape area = outer_rectangle - cutout_rectangle

Estimate Limitations

Final material quantities can change because of waste, compaction, moisture, surface condition, application method, installation pattern, supplier rounding, and product-specific yield. The site is intended for planning and comparison, not structural, permit, engineering, or code compliance decisions.
